Short Stop Po-Boys is a family-owned business that takes pride in offering our customers top quality, home cooked food served quickly and courteously at very competitive prices. Short Stop Po-Boys was established by Mr. Russell F. Hendrick in April 1966 as a corner grocery store and meat market. Every member of Mr. Russell’s immediate family worked at Short Stop, including his father, uncle and cousins.

Short Stop was brought into the poboy business gradually. Employees from other local businesses frequented the store to purchase cold cuts and fresh French bread for daily lunch. Eventually, they asked to have their French bread cut in half. Later, in order to save themselves money, they asked to have mayonnaise, lettuce and tomatoes put on it. The potential for a good poboy shop in the area was apparent. Soon the business began serving cold cut poboys and later began cooking a “crock pot” full of roast beef daily to serve on sandwiches. Today, Short Stop serves its customers over 100 pounds of roast beef daily.

In 1979, Short Stop became incorporated under the name of Master Burger Foods, Inc. and is still doing business as Short Stop Po-Boys. After expanding into four additional locations, the present day Short Stop Po-Boys is in its original location at 119 Transcontinental Drive only.
